Officials explore what state directive means; pot advocates applaud.

ORANGE – A couple of days after the state attorney general issued a new directive on guidelines governing medical marijuana, the county’s top law enforcement brass scrambled to figure out what it means to them.

After years of confusion, Attorney General Jerry Brown on Monday developed guidelines for the first time since the 1996 passing of Proposition 215, also known as the Compassionate Use Act. The law allowed people to use medical marijuana in California.

The most notable guideline upholds the legality of medical marijuana dispensaries that operate as nonprofit cooperatives or collectives. Brown, however, was adamant that for-profit dispensaries are illegal operations.

In addition, the marijuana must be grown by the dispensary, collectives, caregivers or patients and not an outside middleman, Brown said.

Marijuana Cannabinoid/THC Chemistry

The collective name given to the terpenes found in Cannabis is cannabinoids. Most of the naturally occurring cannabinoids have now been identified, and three are the most abundant—cannabidiol (CBD), tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), and cannabinol (CBN). The steps from CBD to THC to CBN represent the biosynthetic pathway in the plant. THC is an optically active resinous material that is very lipid-soluble but water-insoluble; these physical properties make pharmacological investigations difficult, since various non-polar solvents must be used. Although many other materials have been found in this plant, the cannabinoids are unique to it and THC is the only one with appreciable mental affects. THC is believed to be largely, if not solely, responsible for the effects desired by those who use Cannabis socially. Virtually all the effects pro-Biosynthetic Pathway of Cannabinoids induced by smoking or eating some of the whole plant can be attained by using THC alone.

The difference between Indica vs Sativa – Marijuana Leaf Example

Indica vs Sativa Cont’d….

Sativas are opposite of Indicas. They are taller, thinner plants, with much narrower leaves. They tend to grow a lighter green in color. They grow very quickly and its not uncommon for them to reach heights of 16 feet in a single growing season! In optimum growing conditions they can outgrow bamboo! Sativa plants take on a somewhat gangly look compared to Indica breeds. They can take longer to germinate and flower to full maturity than Indicas. Sativa strains have less chlorophyll and more accessory pigments than Indicas. This helps protect the plant from excessive sunlight exposure. As a result, growing out to full maturity can take longer…anywhere from 10-16 weeks. Sativas will enjoy all the light/lumens you can throw at them. These traits are well suited for outdoor growing.
Sativa yield is usually lower than Indica, but its high is very potent. Sativa’s higher THC than CBD equals cerebral, heady, soaring type of highs. Generally energetic and can stimulate brain activity and may lead to hallucinations.
Cannabis Sativa is native to South East Asia. It is also cultivated in Thailand, North, Central and South America, Europe and North and Central Africa.
Major producers include Mexico,Brazil,Paraguay,Colombia,Peru, New Zealand and Arabia. The Indian variety is cultivated in the Orient, Asia and North Africa.
Flavors range from earthy to sweet and fruity.

U.S. Lawmakers Discuss Protection for Cannabis Possesion

MINA Breaking News – US Congressmen tired of pointless marijuana arrests

Members of Congress called on lawmakers to enact legislation that would limit the government’s authority to arrest and prosecute adults who possess marijuana for their own personal use.

The federal government should “not lock people up or use scarce federal resources to arrest people for using or possessing … marijuana,” Rep. Barney Frank (D-MA) announced at a Capitol Hill press conference Wednesday.  “The vast amount of human activity ought to be none of the government’s business.  I don’t think it is the government’s business to tell you how to spend your leisure  time.”

The difference between Indica vs Sativa – Marijuana Leaf Example

We all know there’s different strains of weed. Marijuana breeders will cross breed different plants for prefered characteristics known as phenotypes. A phenotype is the observable, qualifyable, quantifiable representation of a trait. There happen to be two distinct traits known as Indica dominant and Sativa dominant. This does not necessarily mean that there are only two types of plant genes or species or whatever. There is actually a wide array of phenotypes found throughout the plants and their leaves. Skinnier Sativa like class, thick Indica type class, and many less subtle phenotypes between the two.  Curly, pointy, fat skinny, color, shape, etc. see where this is going? and it just keeps going. So when you see a “strain” of marijuana, you are basically looking at a particular plant that a marijuana breeder has created to display certain traits.

We’ll get into these phenotypes and the different examples a bit later. First lets explore the main differences between the two most frequently found and easily identifiable types. Cannabis Indica and Cannabis Sativa.
